The 3rd Annual Live Oak Jack Rabbit art, athletic, music, and food festival on 4/14 at Shoreline Middle School was a big success – we had over 218 student art submissions from Del Mar Elementary, Green Acres Elementary, Live Oak Elementary, Shoreline Middle School, Tierra Pacifica, and Ocean Alternative, from which event participants and our panel of Susana Arias, Beau Barcus, Sarah Bianco selected their top 13.

While 90% of the event went smoothly, our awards ceremony was unfortunately rained out, so we will be presenting each LOSD scholar artist with a $20 Palace Art & Office Supply gift card, Live Oak Education Foundation award certificate, and Assemblymember Dawn Addis’s team is preparing official recognition certificates from the CA State Assembly! Each student will have the opportunity to talk about their creative process, and there will also be a collaborative community art project & family art activity, and the LOEF plans to announce raffle winners for items that didn’t sell through the LOJR online auction.

The artwork is prepared by York Framing Gallery for display during the month of May at Palace, and all of this is especially important this year as the public Live Oak School District has been through all of this is especially important this year as the public Live Oak School District has been dealing with significant budget challenges. Part of the Jack Rabbit is fundraising – and we have raised approximately $10k this year in support of TK-8th grade LOSD arts programs – but another important part is creating a fun community event, and you’re invited to the student art celebration!
