The Company has opted to not renew its Kings Plaza lease, ending in early 2022; instead focusing all efforts on commercial sales brand, Palace Business Solutions.

After 72 years, the Trowbridge Family has decided to shutter the retail division of their company – anticipating closing the doors of its store in Capitola in the early months of 2022. Palace’s commercial sales brand, Palace Business Solutions will absorb The Company’s full attention as it continues to expand its reach beyond the Central Coast. The announcement comes less than a year after moving out of their flagship store in Downtown Santa Cruz.

While the store has long been the face of the Palace brand within the local community, Palace Business Solutions has outperformed the retail division for years – thriving on its contracts with government agencies, school districts, and offices throughout the Central Coast and Silicon Valley. 

Since 1949, Palace Art & Office Supply has remained a constant in the Santa Cruz retail landscape. Consumer loyalty has been a key component to the stores’ longtime success. Challenges brought on by the pandemic magnified an already competitive market for Palace’s offerings. Their lease at 1501-K 41^st Avenue expires at the end of March 2022.

Management anticipates that the store will remain open and operating at full capacity, five days a week through the holiday season before winding down beginning in the early months of 2022. “We are looking forward to one last Christmas season,” says Mark Rispaud, Director of Operations for both retail and commercial divisions of Palace. “We want to celebrate the time we have spent in this community as we make this shift.”
